Carpenters read blueprints, drawings, and sketches to fully understand requirements. Take measurements and determine the size and quantity of material required. Cut, shape, and smooth lumber and other materials (such as fiberglass) to specifications. Using raw materials or pre-fabricated pieces, construct window frames, doors, staircases, and frame buildings. Lay out flooring, roofing, or drywall, making sure that they are leveled and compatible.
